Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Butemwe Nsansa Agape Ngabwe Ngabwe Christian Community School

The OVC (Orphan and Vulnerable Children) work grew out of the obvious need for orphan support as patients died leaving their children often with no means of support. In 2007 three Child Care Centres started in three of our OVC projects, where feeding programs for approximately 80 malnourished children is conducted. Other activities such as sewing, knitting, art, sport, games and various Income Generating activities, counselling and teaching are part of the programs at the Centres.  Educational, medical, nutritional and material support is also rendered to these children. Currently there are 5 OVC Projects helping approximately 700 children in various ways. One of these projects is a Community School in a rural area, where the children otherwise have no opportunity for education. We have 80 trained Child Care volunteers working with the children in the projects.

In all projects there is a coordinator in charge of the project. Each project has an average of 30 volunteers from many different church backgrounds who are divided into teams, supervised by a team leader. Each project also has a cashier who handles the finances and stock control. We also aim to have a project nurse attached to each project. Weekly management meetings are held by the project leaders. Mondays and Fridays are project field days where all volunteers are involved in activities of the project. Tuesdays and Thursdays are training days.

This year we wish to take all our orphans on an outing in order for them to get some more quality time with us, and have a break away from their everyday life. The idea is to take them 10 children from the same age group to a farm, where they can enjoy the farm animals. Afterwards they are taken to our head office where we will bake cookies together, play games and sing songs.
