Family Empowerment
Our first Income Generating Activities were started in 2006. Community vegetable gardens, maize fields, rabbit and chicken rearing have been established in a few of or projects. This year, we are starting up two family empowerment projects on a bigger scale: All participants are volunteers, orphans or caregivers to an orphan or patient.

In 2009 we started two pilot projecs founded by the Rockwool foundation.
Butemwe (Located in Muteteshi, a rural area close to the Congolese boarder) with 122 participants.
Nsansa (Chipulukusu, compound within Ndola) with 90 participants.
All participants are divided into smaller groups and have signed loan agreements. Seeds, rabbits and cages are then distributed. As the rabbits have babies the other members of the small group receives rabbits.
Furthermore the participants are taught improved farming methods, from a farmer from “Dawn Trust” according to the Conservation Farming Methods. Hygiene is also taught by our nurses as well as cooking methods, nutrition ect.The projects are funded by the Rockwool foundation and are of a two year period.
It is our desire that the projects will be a vehicle for community development, by implementing programs that empower the family unit. We will aim to equip the families with life skills to perform income-generating activities that improve the livelihood, and promote self-reliance.
